Cooking Matters

Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters® is a groundbreaking

nutrition-education program that connects families with food

by teaching them how to prepare healthy, tasty, low-cost

meals. Professional chefs and nutritionists lead hands-on

courses that instruct adults, teens, and kids how to get the

most nutrition out of a limited budget.

FEEDING PROGRAMS

Feeding All of Broward (FAB)

FAB is a hunger prevention program that brings federally subsidized nutritious snacks/meals and nutrition education to after school and summer programs in Broward County. FLIPANY draws down the federal funds to ensure out of school program deliver healthy snacks/meals to the children in their care. Using this program allows out of school agencies to save money currently spent on snacks/meals to use for program delivery and work with FLIPANY staff to provide healthier options. FLIPANY also works with senior staff to develop policies for the sites to encourage healthy snacks at home. FREE enrollment for youth serving agencies serving low-income communities.

NUTRITION EDUCATION

Nutrition Counseling

Nutrition Counseling Services at FLIPANY provides comprehensive medical nutrition therapy for clients with a wide range of health conditions. The registered dietitians at FLIPANY conduct individual sessions that are personalized to address each client’s specific needs. FLIPANY’s clients range from children to adolescents and adults, including pregnant women and seniors. The Service treats general clients as well as those with a wide variety of diseases such as: Cardiovascular disease, diabetes, eating malnutrition, & obesity.

Choose My Plate

My Plate nutrition education delivered at your location. FLIPANY’s registered dietitian, Kerri Louati, has developed an introduction to My Plate for preschoolers, children, adults, and seniors. My Plate, replaces the Food Pyramid and was developed to help Americans understand the importance of maintaining a healthy diet by looking at the food choices on their plate. My Plate nutrition education teaches youth and adults how to prepare healthy meals on a budget to ensure participants are eating the variety of foods necessary for good health. These lessons are offered one time, in 8 week sessions, or as a year round program.

Senior Health NOW!

A United Way Broward County Community Impact Program, managed by Broward Meals on Wheels (BMOW); Seniors Health NOW is designed to improve the health of seniors 60-74 living in Broward County. This is the first program of it kind identifying all seniors in Broward County who desire FREE health assessments and education. FLIPANY’s registered dietitian delivers nutrition education, resources, and referrals for pharmaceutical services and in home nutrition services. This is a FREE program offered to all Broward County seniors ages 60-74. Call Monica 954-714-6942.

Lunch-N-Learns

Join FLIPANY's registered dieticians throughout the month, or invite us to your office, social clubhouse, or place of worship for an hour-long discussion on how to lead a healthy lifestyle. Lunch-N-Learn workshops are offered though Memorial Healthcare Systems and Broward County Libraries. Workshops topics include:

FITNESS PROGRAMS

Eat Right. Get Moving. Repeat!

Eat Right. Get Moving. is staffed by exercise professionals and provides affordable to no cost programming at elementary, middle and high schools, after school and day care locations, and local community centers. Lesson plans are designed with

specific objectives based on the participants age and capabilities, with all necessary equipment and instructional activities to reach those objectives provided. Led by fitness professionals, and based on 1.5, 3, or 4 hour blocks of time 1 to 5 days a week, these programs are for children ages 4 to 14, and include fitness and nutrition lessons and other activities, as well as an optional healthy snack.

FITT After School Programs

FITT transforms after-school programs & summer camps from one that is traditional and recess based to a state standard based program. FITT supports “healthy lifestyles” by developing students’ knowledge, skills, overall fitness, and positive habits that encourage lifetime wellness. Activities are designed to fit students’ diverse needs, rather than pressuring students to find their place in a competitive sports program. Furthermore, the project creates a learning community of after-school professionals and develop teachers’ skills that, in turn, will benefit students over the long run.
